Tribute to Winnie Mayele: A Star Has Set, But Her Light Remains

Family and loved ones gather in Manchester to say farewell to a young life full of promise

On January 6th and 7th, 2026, the Manchester community came together in sorrow, but also in love, to say goodbye to Winnie Mayele, a young girl whose life, though short, left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.

The first day of remembrance took place on January 6th, beginning with an English service at St Anne’s Church (M2 7LF) from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a French service at Église en Mission (9 Chippenham Rd, M4 6FF) from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The dress code — all black — reflected the solemn and respectful tone of the day.

The following day, January 7th, Winnie was laid to rest at Philips Park Cemetery at 11:00 AM. In the afternoon, grief gave way to celebration during a gathering at St Joseph’s R.C. Church (M13 0BU) from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Guests were asked to wear white or blue — colours symbolising peace and hope.

The memorial collage shows a vibrant and joyful Winnie — from her early childhood to her teenage years — full of life, warmth, and determination. Her smile, her passion for sports, and her kind presence will not be forgotten.

Her motto, “Winnie always wins,” now stands as a message of love, strength, and resilience. She leaves behind a united community, determined to keep her memory alive.
